Mr. Wilbur D. Van Metre, age 81, of Green Lake, WI passed away on June 4, 1987 at Ripon Memorial Hospital in Ripon, WI.
Wilbur was born on June 6, 1905 in Clemons, IA, the son of Fred and Mary (Teager) Van Metre. He graduated from Clemons High School and went on to attend the University of South Dakota. He was the owner-operator of Van Metre Chevrolet-Oldsmobile Auto Agency and Van Metre Transportation until his retirement. On July 4, 1931 he married Edna Williams in Illinois. He was a member of First Congregational Church in Ripon (past Trustee and past Tresurer); past President and Charter Member of Ripon Kiwanis (member since 1924); past member of Board of Trustees of Ripon College; President of Board of Directors of Russell Manor, Inc. (20 years planning, erection and management).
Wilbur is survived by his wife, Edna; two sons, Jack W. of Madison, WI and Robert E. of Wilton, CT; and four granchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation for Wilbur will be held from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Sunday, June 7, 1987 at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon, WI.
Funeral Service for Wilbur will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, June 8, 1987 at First Congregational Church in Ripon, with The Rev. Allan Martling officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of the Cross Cemetery in Ripon. A memorial has been established for the Congregational Church and Ripon College.
