William D. Barnhart, 81, of 629 Ransom St., Ripon, WI passed away December 24, 2003 at his home, following an illness.
Bill was born March 31, 1922 in Belvidere, IL to William D. and Pauline (Hallman) Barnhart. He married Dorothy L. Lyle March 29, 1947. Attending Ripon College, and The University of Wisconsin Whitewater and River Falls campuses, he received a degree in psychology. Subsequently, he earned an MBA from the University of Chicago.
In his extraordinary professional career, Bill was a Naval Aviator, a United Airlines Captain (33 years; 17,000 flight hours. His certifications include: Pilot ASEL, SES/ATP Multi Eng. Land; FLT HOURS: 17,000; A/C FLOWN: Douglas DC3/4/6/7, Boeing 707/720/727/737 and Lockheed Constellation, Vickers Viscount.), a producer for the ABC radio network and an Episcopal Deacon, serving as a travelers’ chaplain at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport and Chaplain of EAA’s Fergus Chapel, in Oshkosh, WI. He was a member of numerous professional organizations including the International Society of Air Safety Investigators and Civil Air Chaplain’s International, Human Factors Society, Avia, and Psychologists Assn.
Though a man of numerous interests and gifts, Bill’s first love was time spent with his loving family and friends. Survivors include his daughter Kyle (Scott) Guyette of Ripon, one sister, Bernice LaVine of Angels Camp, CA, one nephew, George La Vine and one niece, Susan Campen. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy (November 16, 2002) and his daughter Lauriston S. Barnhart (October 23, 2002).
Bill was a quiet man who faithfully served his Lord, his country and his fellow man. His family and many friends dearly miss him.
