William R. Brandt, 71, of Ripon died at his residence Saturday afternoon, Nov. 18, 1989.

Mr. Brandt was born in New York City and was a Ripon resident for 37 years. He was the Director of Ripon College Library from 1952-1980 and the Library’s Volunteer Archivist from 1980-1985. He was active in the Wisconsin Library Association and Midwest Archival Conference. He was an overseas veteran of WWII, a graduate of Hamilton College and Columbia University School of Library Science. He had previously worked in New York City’s Public Library and the University Club’s Library. Ripon College awarded him an Honorary doctorate in 1987.

Mr. Brandt is survived by his wife, Mary, 3 daughters, Mrs. William (Harriet) Arnold of Chicago, Margaret of Eminence, Kentucky and Sarah of Chicago and one grandson, William O. Arnold IV.

A memorial fund has been established and Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, Ripon, is handling arrangements.
