William Bill John Crook, age 72, of Westfield, WI, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at Tivoli Nursing Home in Portage with family by his side.
Bill was born October 5, 1943, in Ripon, WI, the son of Donald W. and Caroline (Konow) Crook. He graduated from Ripon High School and went on to further his education at the Fond du Lac Vocational School. In 1962, Bill married Janet Smith in Ripon. He worked as an engineer at Speed Queen in Ripon. Bill was a member of Our Saviours United Church of Christ in Ripon and the Ripon Historical Society.
Bill was very talented. He was a jack of all trades and a master of none. Over the years he was into leather work, fly tying and gig making, reloading gun shells, stained glass, wood working, gardening and numerous other projects. The thing he enjoyed most was riding on his tractor, either mowing or plowing while he whistled. Bills sense of humor came out sitting around a kitchen table having coffee or a beer with relatives and friends. All work would stop when a company came. After many years of practice, Bill found the perfect site, which reminded him of his grandparents farm. He then built the shack with the help of family and friends which he was very grateful for. It was the top thing on his bucket list and he accomplished it.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Crook of Westfield, WI; son, Wiet (Carrie) Crook; grandson, Maddox Crook all of Union Grove, WI; sisters-in-law, Connie Ruge, Gayle (Terry) Cain, Nedra (Willard) Smith and Karen and Rita Smith; brothers-in-law, Ron (Mary) Smith and Mark Smith. Bill was further survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Caroline; mother and father-in-law, Floyd and Phyllis (Steinke) Smith and brothers-in-law, Scott and Bruce Smith.
