William Fraunfelder

October 16, 1947 — February 13, 2021

William “Bill” Fredrick Fraunfelder, age 73, of Ripon, WI, passed away Saturday, February 13, 2021, at Bethel Home in Oshkosh, WI.

Bill was born October 16, 1947, in Janesville, WI, the son of Fredrick and Margaret “Peg” (O’Neill) Fraunfelder. He attended St. Patrick Catholic Grade School, St. Peter and St. Paul in Carey, IL, Janesville Junior High and graduated from Janesville Senior High School. From 1967 to 1969, Bill served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was an assembly lineman and team coordinator at General Motors in Janesville and later at General Motors in Fort Wayne, IN. On October 20, 2007, Bill married Catherine (Lampe) Souhrada in Milwaukee.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Fort Wayne, IN, St. Matthew Parish in Wausau, WI, St. Veronica in Milwaukee, WI and Most Blessed Sacrament in Oshkosh, WI. Bill was an active usher, Eucharistic minister, member of the Knights of Columbus and a volunteer at Ascension Mercy Hospital in Oshkosh.

Bill loved life and good Irish stories and jokes, with brogue included. He loved the Packers, fishing, meals with friends and his faith and church. He especially loved his wife, Cathy “Bridget”. Bill would always take his camera on any trips and adventures. His love of nature was superseded by his love of antique cars. He always stopped wherever and whenever there was a car show. If there was a train nearby, of course he stopped. Bill was especially proud to have been a railroad employee with his father, Fred, who was an engineer. Bill was his fireman until he went into the Army. Bill and Cathy loved to travel both locally and nationally. He especially liked his trip to the Grand Canyon on their honeymoon. For their 10th anniversary, they took a train trip to Seattle. He had never seen the mountains before.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine Fraunfelder of Ripon, WI; two sons from a previous marriage; a step-son; brother, Joseph (Marla) Fraunfelder of Whitefish Bay, WI and many nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fredrick and Margaret Fraunfelder; two brothers, Steve and Jim; and an older sister, Patricia.
