William J. Schang, age 74, of Oshkosh, WI, formerly of Ripon, WI, passed away on Monday, October 12, 2015.
William was born September 25, 1941, in Detroit, MI, the son of Jacob J. and Helen M. (Ziegler) Schang. He graduated from Trenton High School and went on to receive his PhD from the University of Michigan. On July 10, 1965, William married Louise F. Clune in Ann Arbor, MI. William was Professor of English for 41 years and Dean of Faculty of Ripon College in the later years of his profession. William was awarded the May Bumby Severy Award for Excellence in Teaching (2000, 1989, 1984, 1975). He also won four Senior Class Awards for teaching (1998, 1986, 1985, 1982) and a James Underkofler Award for Exellence in Undergraduate Teaching in 1993.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Louise Schang of Oshkosh, WI; son Jeffrey W. (Karen Hoffmann) Schang of Appleton, WI; three grandchildren, Kayla and Dylan Schang and Cameron Schang Hoffmann of Appleton, WI; two sisters, Marilyn (Dan Mihalo) Varas of Seattle, WA and Barbara (Jerry) Zielinski of Okemos, MI; brother-in-law, Joseph (Margaret) Clune of Shelby, MI; sister-in-law, Bernadine Clune of Streamwood, IL. William is further survived by one niece, Alison Clune of Washington, DC and five nephews, Christopher (Melissa Davis) Varas of Seattle, WA , Matthew (Kristen) Varas of Plymouth, MN, John Clune, Paul Clune III of Wheeling, WV and Adam (Hee-Kyung) Clune of Columbus, OH. William was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Jacob, brother-in-law, Paul Clune II and parents-in-law, Paul and Frances (Schneider) Clune.
Visitation for William will be held on Monday, October 19, 2015, from 11 – 1:00 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, 515 Mayparty Dr., Ripon, WI 54971.
Memorial Service for William will be held on Monday, October 19, 2015, at 1:00 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Ripon College, Schang Family Visiting Writers Fund, P.O. Box 248, Ripon, WI 54971.
