William Splitt

William R. Splitt, age 82, of 544 Lyon St., Ripon, died Wednesday, November 5, 2003, at his home.

He was born December 23, 1920, in Horicon, a son to Frank and Tilly (Jantz) Splitt. He was a graduate from Ripon High School. Bill served in the US Army 127th Infantry as a rifle marksman from 1938 to 1941. In 1942, he married the former Evelyn Schleicher in Fond du Lac. Bill then served his country in the Army Air Forces in the European African Middle Eastern Theater from 1942 to 1945. He was a member of the Red Arrow 32nd Army Infantry Division, and was one of the last survivors known as the Cream of the Crop. Until his retirement, for 28 years he had been a truck driver for Speed Queen in Ripon.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Splitt; 2 daughters, Karen Splitt of Plover and Jan (David) Gloyd of Ripon; grandsons, Jason Gloyd and special friend, Angie Helmer of Oshkosh and Jeff (Josalyn) Gloyd of Onalaska; granddaughter, Jessica Gloyd of Ripon; and sister, Adell Henderson of Juneau. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gordon Splitt; and sisters, Violet Williams, Mildred Epstein Krentz and Verna Harrington.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 7, 2003, at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home with Rev. David A. Busker officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Internment with Military Honors will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Ripon. Memorials may be given to the Ripon V.F.W. or American Legion, or Hospice.
